Woven Vs. Fabric

Growing up in the south….I remember attending church with my family and staring at all the people wearing bright colored suits, dresses, huge hats, and shiny shoes. Everyone was perfectly coordinated from their head to their feet. I’m currently visualizing the unique bold patterns and everyone’s unique personalized style. NOBODY dared to show up to church in less than their Sunday best. Lol! I recall the proud looks on each person’s face as they walked down the aisle to their seats. They knew they looked good and I was in agreement. Now that I think about it….we used to be extra cute, but HOT as hell! Chiiiile, sometimes it used to be so hot in that church that we would either use the church program to fan ourselves or frantically wave down the nearest usher to request a paper fan before they were all distributed. The fans used to be made of thick paper and it usually had the advertisement of a local funeral home printed on it or a picture of a civil rights leader. 

You know what?!? We’ve come a long way from those paper fan days. We now carry handmade woven Bolga fans and foldable fans that are crafted in Ghana. Our fans have some of the same bright colors and unique patterns that I remember from my youth. They’re beautiful! 

Please keep in mind, that our fans are not machine made, so expect to see small imperfections that add another layer of character and richness to each fan. Everything from the fabric down to the coloring of the yellow “elephant grass” are made from scratch. I hope these fans stir up some of your fondest memories and I hope you appreciate their beauty just as much as we do.
